Controlling Resources
Hyperic HQ provides the capability to control resources one at a time, or issue controls to a group of similar resources at the same time.
Supported Control Actions
The control actions Hyperic HQ makes available are resource-dependent. Servers typically support starting, stopping, and restarting. Services generally support starting, stopping, and reloading. The specific actions a resource supports are documented in the Managed Products section of the documentation.
Issuing Control Actions
Users perform control actions from a central location in the Hyperic HQ Portal saving the need to log into each machine or use multiple interfaces. From resource in HQ, click the
to view the control interface. Control actions can also be issued using the HQ Shell, see the Control CLI Command for details.
Quick Control
Quick Control are one-time actions on a resource. Quick Control actions are executed in the Quick Control section of the control page within the UI. The action is executed on the remote machine immediately and the user is given a status page with the control action results.

The features described the following sections are available through the Hyperic HQ Enterprise Subscription |
Scheduled Actions
Scheduled Actions are created in the Control Action Schedule section of the control page. These actions are useful for recurring actions, such as rebooting a web server each evening.
Control Actions via Alerts
Control actions can also be associated with an alert definition. From the Alert Definition page, simply select a control action to perform in the Control Action section to specify an action to execute when the alert fires. This is useful for performing corrective action based on an alert, such as a website reporting unavailable.
