HQ Monitoring Defaults Configuration
The HQ Monitoring Defaults Configuration page allows you to configure the metric templates for resource types in HQ. The default metric collection intervals for a specific resource type are defined here. Also defined here are the Resource Type Alerts.
Edit Metric Templates and Indicator Metrics
The metric template for a resource type determines which metrics are enabled for collection by default when a new resource of that type is created and what the collection interval of those metrics are. The configuration is applied to the resource type, and only affects new resources that get imported or configured. To modify the settings, click on the EDIT METRIC TEMPLATE button next to the resource type name.
The Monitoring Defaults Configuration page for the specified resource type is displayed. Each metric that can be collected by resources of this type is listed with three columns:
| Column Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Default On | Whether or not the metric is enabled by default. |
| Collection Interval | The default collection interval for the metric. This only applies if the metric is to be collected by default. |
| Indicator | Whether or not the metric is an indicator metric |
Metric Template
To enable metrics for collection by default and/or modify the collection interval, select the metrics you want by checking the checkbox(es) next to the metric name(s). Next, enter the value you want in the Collection Interval for Selected field, selecting a time unit from the drop-down list next to the field. Then click the
button to enable the metrics with the specified collection interval you specified. To disable metrics for collection by default, simply select the metrics you want to disable by checking the checkbox(es) next to the metric name(s). Then click the DISABLE COLLECTION button to prevent the metric(s) from being enabled when a new resource of the specified type is imported, created, or configured.
| Template Changes Apply to All Resources! Remember that the metric template only apply to all existing resources of that type. So if any resources have a custom metric configuration, it will be overwritten with any changes made here. |
Indicator Metrics
To enable metrics to be indicator metrics, select the metrics you want by checking the checkbox(es) next to the metric name(s). Next, click the
button next to the Set Selected Metrics as Indicators label to make those metrics indicators.
| Setting Indicators You are setting the indicators, not adding to the indicators. Therefore any metric not checked when you click Set Selected Metrics as Indicators will be disabled as indicators. Also, note that changes to indicator metrics apply to existing resources but only for users that have not explicitly changed the default indicator page on the resources (of the specified type). If a user has changed the default indicator page for a resource, that will not be overwritten with changes made here. |
