Mirko Pluhar says:

Configuring bind 9.x for Monitoring in Novell SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (SLES9)

  1. Install bind-devel from yast. It contains rdnc.
  2. Run rndc-confgen > /etc/rndc.conf to generate a sample configuration
  3. Edit /etc/rndc.conf and copy the paragraph below # End of rndc.conf to /etc/named.conf
  4. Delete the # on the specific lines
  5. Check if /etc/named.conf contains a line like statistics-file "/var/log/named.stats"
  6. Disable zone-statistics in /etc/named.conf
  7. Check bind configuration: /etc/init.d/named probe
  8. Reload configuration: /etc/init.d/named reload
  9. SLES9 maybe runs chroot-environment, so named.stats resides in /var/lib/named/log/named.stats
  10. Now configure bind monitoring in Hyperic HQ

Configuring bind 9.x for Monitoring in Novell SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (SLES10)

Configuring bind monitoring in SLES10 should be similar to SLES9, but due to Apparmor you have  to do some more steps, so that rndc can write the statistic-file
